Video Use in the Classroom
I have been using my flip video camera with my first graders when they are reading. I let them watch themselves and they judge if they are reading with emphasis and stopping at punctuation. They are great at critiquing their own work. I also have used it to help them with presentations. They try and improve their delivery after seeing themselves. They also think it is fun!!!

This is a wonderful idea! I think your students will learn so much more when they critic themselves.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea Sharon. In fact, I too plan to use the flip video camera with my kindergarten students during an upcoming "Reader's Theater".
ReplyDeleteWere your students distracted by the filming? I imagine if I did it with my daily reading groups it would be too distracting for my students. Do your students view everyone reading or just themselves?
Thanks!
I like your idea of recording them when they read and then having them review it. I think I am going to try that once I get my second practicum unit out of the way~ thanks for the GREAT idea!
ReplyDeleteI love love love this idea and plan on stealing (I mean borrowing...) it! Helping the kids with fluency is one of the hardest things in first grade because so many of them just don't get it. I think filming them would really help to get rid of that "robot voice" that we hear so often! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great use of digital video! It gives the students the opportunity to see themselves and decide whether they need to make any changes in their reading habits rather than the teacher just telling them!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the students critiquing themselves because then you don't have other students doing it or the teacher which some students can be sensitive about. I think it is difficult for students at their age to accept constructive criticism.
